Cameroon : 19 deaths in a road accident

At least 19 people were killed in a road accident, from Kribi to rally Yaounde, this Monday, April 08, 2019

The road accident happened this Monday, in Elogbatinda locality, sixty kilometers from Kribi, on the axis Yaounde - Kribi, has been learned from sources conspicuous. A 30-seater bus owned by an intercity transportation company collided with a poorly parked truck. According to testimonials, the driver tried to avoid a pothole on the asphalt.

An unofficial report states that at least 19 people were killed and several seriously wounded who were taken to the Edéa regional hospital. An umpteenth traffic accident that calls again on a scourge that has become recurrent on the roads in Cameroon.

While motorists point to the poor state of the roads, the authorities highlight the responsibility of drivers and public transport agencies. Also, speeding, bad overtaking, overloading, driving in a state of safety or recurring potholes, are all causes related to traffic accidents.

In order to reduce the number of fatal accidents on the roads, the Government has announced some measures. This includes improving the licensing and licensing process and strengthening the training of candidates for driving license examinations.

We also note the multiplication of controls on roads, by the elements of the Gendarmerie and the Police, to apprehend and repress any offender to the regulations on road transport.

In addition to these measures, the generalization of alcohol testing, and the increased criminalization of certain offenses under the Highway Code and general rules of driving on public roads, are also recommended.

Measures whose results are for the moment, mixed. While more than 8669 deaths have been recorded in 22 314 road accidents over the past eight years in Cameroon.
